This year again, a Frenchie dazzled the Hollywood scene. An elegant and gifted Frenchie coveted by all the best film directors : music composer Alexandre Desplat.
Finally !
He had been nominated 6 times in the past and had always left LA empty-handed. Disappointed but each time a good loser telling journalists that he was so happy to be one of the guests of the year’s biggest party.
This time he had to reconsider his speech. Being nominated twice in the Best Original Score category for The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Imitation Game, the odds were in his favour. And he won ! He delivered the usual speech (thanking his wife and cats), but vamped it up with a charming “french accent”. Backstage he catches his breath : “An Oscar is an Oscar. This is the biggest award for someone working in the film industry. That says it all.”
Congratulations, you are now officially a member of the club !
Hollywood in the pocket
Who would have thought that in Montparnasse, a stone throw from the ugliest skyscraper in the world, someone was creating the tunes of the most important French and American films ?
To make the most of Alexandre’s talent, we can only urge you to watch (and listen to !) The Grand Budapest Hotel, a gem, full of ingenuity and poetry !
