This week, we introduce you to Balzac Paris, a young French brand creating funky bow-ties, witty sweatshirts and hand-embroidered t-shirts.

Balzac who?

Aside from being a notorious and surely glamorous French author, Balzac is also a Pretty Young Brand (PYB) entirely « made in France » founded by three enthusiastic, creative and passionate entrepreneurs. Charles, Victorien and Chrysoline created the concept upon a simple endeavour : that to update the noeud papillon’s* image that became either too solemn or too tacky in the general public’s eye.(*noeud papillon, also known as noeud-pap’, quite literally means « butterfly tie ». We decided to keep the original word because, you know, it’s Frenchie)

Their wish to revolutionise the accessory materialised with their beautiful series of colourful and patterned noeud papillon’s, each named after one of their friends; and from one stage to another, the adventure went on. In the work environment, each founders’ role imposed itself naturally.

Charles works on production and the financial and commercial aspects of the brand, Chrysoline takes care of the collections and general communication, and Victorien, the ‘exterior’ eye, inspects the final products.

Altogether, the team works in an energetic and cohesive fashion; a harmony echoed in the designs and general spirit of the brand.

A beautiful product is a product that is worked, but also one that is honest and clever

In the process of production, Balzac is very concerned with the quality but also the ethics of the clothing. Chrysoline does not fail to tell us, with a hint of pride and a barely-concealed smile, that the couturière of the brand, Clémentine, is meticulous and rigorous, passionate and devoted ; in short, the very best.

Quality is top priority, but the origin of materials is also an important factor that remains close to their initial concept and ideal. The clothes are therefore 100% French – an ethical choice but also a responsible approach that of course immediately delighted us!

Their muse?

Jeanne Dammas, a French feminine icon who is at once sexy and classy and whose style is atemporal, chic and simple : the embodiment of Balzac’s few basic principles. She wears the « Bisou » (kiss) t-shirt with personality and confidence. We simply love it !

In short, Balzac offers an essential style, atypical creations that are chic and comfortable, colourful but also covered in singular patterns, for both day and night… All we have left to say is… What else?!
